I am so sure of the teaching methods that I have developed that I do something no other private music teacher or school does, I guarantee it - with a 6 week unconditional money back guarantee. Guitar lessons, Saxophone lessons, Piano lessons, Bass guitar lessons whichever instrument you choose is all the same to me, and I'm the only one who guarentees them all. The method I developed, and use is called the "Ensemble Method," it utilizes a combination of private and small group lessons to create a sort of band or "ensemble." One half hour is theory (the ability to read, write, and interpret written music) and playing techniques. The second half hour is the group lesson in which the students play songs as a group that are specially arranged to show how to use the techniques learned in the first half hour. Lesson rates are $40 per hour per student. All lessons are given in my centrally located studio in Boca Raton at the corner of Palmetto and Powerline.
The individual attention needed by all students at one point or another is not lost, only embellished by the addition of playing in a “band” or “group.” In addition, the need to be able to perform well together with the others in your ensemble encourages better practicing habits, the bane of all private lessons. The fun and healthy competetive atmosphere of the Ensemble Method encourages faster learning and higher retention. We find the students actually help and encourage each other along. There are residual benefits as well, such as the making of new friends, camaraderie, learning to know when to take the lead, and when to follow. Playing music is never as enjoyable as when you’re playing together with other musicians. I'm so sure of it, I put my money were my mouth is, I guarantee it.
Guitar Lessons
The guitar is by far our most popular
instrument, and why not? It's the definitive instrument of the last
60 years. Rock and roll would not exist with out it. There are physical complications to the instrument that make it a bit more complicated then, say , the piano, which is more push a button and make a sound. Twirling your fingers around a wooden neck and pressing on metal strings can take some getting used to especially for the young ones. Tabliture, which
tells players where to place their fingers on a particular instrument
rather than which pitches to play, and leaves out the rhythm has
become the armatures have over embraced this form which limits the
musical knowledge of the student. We teach and use it as a tool to
help in understanding how to play but the focus of our guitar lessons
here in Boca is on the theory which makes for a more well rounded
musician. Teaching with to much emphasis on tab creates a player who
perpetually needs to copy other players instead of being creative on
their own. We never forget that students will want to play songs they
recognize and enjoy so we ask what songs they hope to play and try to
incorporate them when we can. Enjoyment is key.
Piano Lessons
Piano lessons are the definitive form of music lessons, after all. music notation Is based on the early keyboards which evolved into the modern Piano.
thats not to say its the best instrument to learn first, as is often remarked, but is definitely one that all musicians should know to some degree. The more the better. At our piano lessons here in Boca, student learn from the beginning the use of music notation and the numerical system musician associate the notes with "steps" and "degrees" making the pianist able to "transpose" between the different keys quickly and easily. I feel strongly that no simplifying tricks should be used to teach piano. Piano and regular music notation go hand in hand and no pianist of ours leaves without extensive knowledge taught in a fun and enjoyable way, and being part of the ensemble only expedites this.
Bass Lessons
The Bass guitarist is the the heart of the band. The bass guitarist holds the beat, and just listen to a band that has no bass player, they sound empty. A good bass player has as much knowledge as a good piano player, and a good bass player will always find work. Its the least popular of the main modern instruments but from the stand point of the band, it's probably the most important. they are the unsung heroes of any band and my hats off to any truly well trained and accomplished bass player. Bass lessons here at the Boca studio will show the student how truly enjoyable this instrument is to play as well as how important it really is. With proper training, this instrument is a blast to play.
Saxophone Lessons
Considered by far to be the sexiest instrument. Its sultry sound is unmistakable. Note manipulation and proper embouchure (use of facial muscles and lips upon the mouthpiece) make for some of the most beautiful sounds in music. Taking sax lessons here in Boca, you will learn the techniques of all the greatest jazz musicians. Music theory and notation is of course in of key importance, but too often is the only thing taught when teaching woodwind and style is left to the student to figure out. There's no figuring here. In our Boca Raton music studio style is produced. No sax player will ever leave here wanting.
Drum Lessons
Drums are the backbone of any modern band. The talent of the players is often overlooked, but without a doubt, these guys are the hardest working members of the band. I know I wouldn't want to lug all that stuff around. At the studio we will have a full set of drums to learn and practice on, but at home, the student needs only a drum pad in the beginning to practice technique. Only when the student is ready does he need to get a full set. this can be discussed with you instructor. I know that the sound of pounding drums in your home is probably not something you are looking forward to. Fret not. There are electronic drum sets available at reasonable cost and methods of dampening the sound of standard sets so that the pounding will not drive you out of your home.
